Thunder SW-15D awarded
„hificlass” – BEST BUY for Thunder SW-15D active subwoofer.
The Thunder SW-15D provides the sound focused more on showing the texture of the low-frequency band, its timbre and its general nature than on constantly boosting emotions through an effective, sometimes even exaggerated message, which is often encountered in budget subwoofers. The SW-15D operates the bass with ease which is usually associated with much more expensive designs with even higher power. The bass is in no hurry, allowing the listener to immerse themselves in a fairly wide spectrum of information. At the same time, while listening to diverse musical material, I did not find that the SW-15D did not keep up with the rhythm of the songs or suppressed the previously arose low-frequency waves too sluggishly.
The TAGA Harmony subwoofer reproduced the bass in music recorded in multi-channel formats particularly well.
In songs from the album "Violator" by the British band Depeche Mode, the SW-15D coped very well with both capturing the quite diverse texture of the low-frequency range and transmitting dynamics. The great ease in the use of timbre was particularly audible – where the song required it, such as “Halo”, the bass line was suitably dense and at the same time varied.
In turn, in songs such as “Personal Jesus” or “World In My Eyes”, the range of low tones was reproduced with an emphasis on showing mass, proper weight and strength. It sounded quite freely, without compression, but was also efficiently suppressed at the right moments.
In action movies such as “Spectre” or “First Man”, the SW-15D was able to produce soft and “gut-massaging” bass with dynamics of an almost cinematic nature.
